Update on the “Drag Show in Front of Children” case from Liberty Council Lawyer Kristina Heuser
"The City of Naples added a new attorney to its legal team and, on the evening of Thursday, May 22, 2025, filed its Notice of Appeal from the District Court's Order awarding a Preliminary Injunction to Naples Pride together with a motion to stay the Injunction pending appeal. That motion was addressed to the District Court. If denied, the City can (and likely will) make the same application to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Liberty Counsel is awaiting a ruling on our motion on behalf of three Naples parents to intervene as Defendants-Appellants in the action. If granted intervenor status, we can file our own stay application and appellate brief. If our motion to intervene is denied, Liberty Counsel intends to file an amicus brief in support of the City's motion for a stay of the injunction pending appeal.
Dear Local Business Owner, As a concerned resident of Collier County, I recently learned that your business is sponsoring the Naples Pride Festival, scheduled for June 7, 2025, at Cambier Park. I am writing to share my concerns about this event and respectfully request your reconsideration. I fully support the right to free expression, as protected by the First Amendment of our Constitution. However, I am dismayed that an adult-oriented performance in a public space near a children’s playground will take place. Such content could inadvertently expose young children to inappropriate or sexually suggestive material, which I believe would be unsuitable for a family-friendly environment. Children should not be exposed to sexually provocative acts in a children's playground. As a local consumer, I urge you to reconsider your sponsorship of the Naples Pride Festival 2025. Continuing to fund an event that will include content unsuitable for all audiences could impact community support for your business. This may bring about unfavorable financial repercussions.
